The Shreveport Mavericks and The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club To Host Annual Family Fun Day and Check Presentation
With Special Guest Speaker, Fair Park High School Graduate, Antonio Webb, M.D.

Shreveport, LA –Today, The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club announced their partnership with the Shreveport Mavericks, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana and United Health Care Louisiana will host the 2nd Annual Family Fun Day on September 20, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at 2821 Greenwood Road in Shreveport.

Family Fun Day creates an opportunity for adults in our community to ‘Pledge to Play’ and foster stronger relationships and to spend meaningful time with local at-risk youth. Family Fun Day is one small step in rebuilding “villages” in our neighborhoods and to provide young people with the skills and motivation they need to HAVE GREAT FUTURES, while protecting them from the dangerous problems they face every day.

The event will open with guest speaker and Shreveport native Dr. Antonio Webb, whom is a 2001 graduate of local high school Fair Park High, which is located in the target community of the Club. Dr. Webb, age 31, served eight years of active duty in the United States Air Force as a combat medic. He earned his Medical Degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C., where he earned honors in the fields of Renal, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry and Critical Care ICU. He also gives a road map to success in his new book, “Overcoming the Odds.”

Also, ABA League Champions, the Shreveport Mavericks recognized this need and has committed to working with Club members by volunteering year-round and by making a sizable donation to support Club programs which will be presented at the event. This event is also supported by AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana and United Health Care Louisiana. These companies will also make a check presentation at the event.

Other local agencies involved are: The Shreveport Fire Department (Smokehouse & Fire Truck), The Shreveport Sheriff’s Office (SRT Armored Car), face painting, food, Shreveport Job Corp, Sweet Frog, Splash Kingdom, Target (volunteering), Old Navy (volunteering), Bounce Houses, CiCi’s Pizza, Willis Knighton, Robinson Rescue (volunteering), Banana Republic (volunteering), All Star Lanes and The Olive Garden (donated).

This event is free and open to the public.
